Meet Our Team

Our full-time educators are recent college graduates who have mastered the skills students need to succeed and are well versed with Sage’s methods, curriculum, and culture, in order to provide your students with the best tutoring experience available in the Bay Area. Having recently graduated themselves, our educators offer students help from adults they can relate to (not adults they are related to).

Our Founders

William Heaps, Sage Founder and Educator

Sage Educators Founder William Heaps graduated from Virginia Tech University with degrees in political science, international politics, and Spanish. While completing his coursework, he coached soccer, swimming, and basketball teams and served as an athletic camp director. He also studied abroad at Universidad de San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador. William then studied history at the University of Amsterdam, earning him master’s degree summa cum laude. Back in the U.S., he became director of a prominent Washington, D.C. tutoring and test-prep company, where he was an SAT and ACT instructor, academic tutor, and homeschool teacher. While teaching subjects from American history and government to trigonometry and pre-calculus, he also trained new instructors and implemented an innovative online tutoring program. William and his wife, Jaime, have been part of the Mill Valley community since 2007. Recognizing a need for customized tutoring and test prep services, Jaime and William founded Sage Educators. Along with serving as Sage’s director, William specializes in math, science, and history tutoring. When not at Sage, he enjoys hiking, traveling, and volunteering as a mentor for a Bay Area youth organization.

Jaime Heaps, Sage Founder and Executive Director

Sage Educators Founder Jaime Heaps graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.A. degree in world politics and policy, French, and political science. Our Directors

Rachel, Senior Director

Rachel Byron graduated magna cum laude from Miami University, where she earned her B.S. in Exercise Science. Rachel’s dedication to education earned her President’s List and Dean’s List distinctions at Miami and enabled her to participate in the Golden Key National Honor Society, a selective organization for high-achieving college students. Like her twin sister, fellow Sage tutor Jessica, Rachel played four years of NCAA Division I soccer on the Miami University Women’s Soccer Team. During her tenure at Miami, Rachel learned to successfully balance the demands of academics and college athletics as demonstrated by her selection to the 2010 and 2009 Academic All Mid-American Conference Team and recipient of the Mid-American Conference Commissioner’s Award for Academic and Athletic Excellence. Rachel was born in Elkhart, IN, and has been very fortunate to travel to some amazing places. Her experiences have led her to develop a strong passion for empowering youth. She is excited about the opportunity to help kids realize their potential and is especially thrilled to be a member of the Sage team. While Rachel is not pursuing her passion for youth development, she can be found running, reading, and taking advantage of the beautiful Bay Area that she is happy to call home.

Our Educators

Mariah, Educator

Mariah Dorado graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a bachelor’s of science in Marine Biology. She spent her last year participating in numerous research projects including studying octopus foraging behavior in Corsica, France. Mariah enjoys spending her time mentoring youth and sharing her passion for science with others. She is excited to be a part of the Sage team as a seasoned science and math tutor. When she’s not tutoring, she spends her time studying different styles of partner dance or reading personal development books at home.

Jaime, Educator

Jaime McConachie (they/them) graduated from Williamette University, a tiny Oregon liberal arts school, with majors in Biology and Mathematics. They then spent three years working on a various conservation research projects studying birds and plants in California, New Mexico, American Samoa, and Australia. They’re excited to now be working with their other passion: making math engaging and accessible to all students. During their free time, Jaime can be found looking at pelicans on the beach, practicing aikido and karate, or watercolor painting. Jaime doesn’t have a favorite bird, but catching and tagging Yellow-eyed Penguins in New Zealand is probably the coolest bit of field biology they’ve done.

Brenden, Educator

Brenden Satake graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a B.S. in Computer Science with a focus on game design. After college, Brenden spent the summer teaching how to design games for VR. He realized that he enjoyed teaching, and decided to continue as a tutor. When he’s not working, Brenden enjoys rock climbing, trying new board games, experimenting with game design, and playing Dungeons & Dragons.

Aaron, Educator

Aaron Batker Pritzker graduated from Harvey Mudd College with a bachelor’s degree in physics, and continued in physics to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for part of a Ph.D. program, before deciding his more fundamental questions lay in philosophy. He then completed a master’s degree in philosophy at San Francisco State University. He’s worked in physics to improve the efficiency of thin-film solar cells, test a new explanation for how the conductivity of a magnet changes next to a heavy metal, and simulate noise patterns in quantum computing hardware. In philosophy, his project has been to tell a story about which kinds of entities make up thoughts, feelings, emotions, and sensations, just like physicists tell a very compelling story about which kinds of entities make up everything else. Throughout his education, he’s been teaching and tutoring; his favorite part of this area of his life is discovering the way that each student learns so he can strengthen their particular skillset.

While at Cal, Kamal honed that in the field of STEM, she particularly enjoyed her experiences in classes in environmental science research, such as ‘Spider Biology’ and the ‘Genetics of Amphibian Declines’. After graduation reflecting on her time at Berkeley, Kamal realized she missed tutoring students the most, and decided to pursue teaching, while also further exploring the world of research. When Kamal isn’t working she has many hobbies, such as playing flag-football, playing card games, trying out new coffee shops, and watching 90s sitcoms.
