Take an online class (for credit!) and lean on Sage for support.

For-Credit Classes with Sage Educators

Is your student looking for an alternative to traditional classroom learning? Does your student want to take Spanish, but can’t fit it into their busy schedule? Does your student want to skip ahead to the next level? Consider taking a WASC-accredited and UC/CSU-approved for-credit course during the summer or academic year. While there are many reasons that a student my choose to go this route, the logistics are simple. We can walk you through the registration process with APEX Learning Virtual School, or BYU Online High School, then set up a regular schedule with one of our professional educators to teach the material and keep your student accountable. Once the class is completed, course grades are issued by the online school and transferred to your THSSD or local school transcript. Want to learn more? Read some student profiles below.

Student Profiles: Who are for-credit classes really for?

Kate, Senior, Tam High

Kate wanted to lighten her senior year workload so she could focus on her college applications. She opted to take Honors PreCalculus online through APEX Learning. Kate setup ad-hoc appointments with her Sage tutor when she could fit them into her busy schedule. As a result of this flexibility, Kate was able to earn high marks in her classes at Tam, A’s both semesters in her Honors PreCalculus class, and is now in the process of choosing which college to attend. We’ll let you know when she decides.

Mark, Senior, Tam High

Mark is a student, like many, who has always found it easier to learn in a one-on-one setting. When he discovered that he could take a for-credit class with his Sage tutor, he jumped at the opportunity. Mark enrolled in PreCalculus online through APEX Learning. He scheduled regular, bi-weekly appointments with his Sage tutor allowing him to work through the curricula at his own pace, breezing over the easy concepts and drilling down on those with which he struggled. This personalized instruction was the perfect fit and Mark excelled. In the end, he earned an A both semesters and will go on to Parsons School of Design in the fall.

Charlotte, Senior, Tam High

Charlotte is a high-achieving student engaged in a wide variety of academic and extracurricular activities. She enrolled in AP Calculus AB at APEX Learning in the hopes that it would create some flexibility in her otherwise chock-0-block schedule. Charlotte, along with a friend, scheduled hours with her Sage tutor during the times that she would have been in class at Tam. In a small-group setting, Charlotte was able to work through the AP Calculus curriculum in less than half the time that she would have in the classroom. She is currently gearing up for the AP exam, and we expect her to do very well!

Ben, Sophomore, Redwood High

Ben is a student who only took Algebra as a Freshman. On this math track the highest he would be able to go at Redwood was Advanced Algebra. (Not completing PreCalculus in high school may make students less competitive college applicants as Calculus is viewed as the freshman level mathematics course.) Ben took Geometry with BYU Online High School over the summer so that he could jump ahead. He and his Sage tutor met daily for an hour or two to learn new concepts and work through the material together. Now a Junior, Ben is taking Advanced Algebra at Redwood and is registered to take PreCalculus as a Senior next year!
